The Whale

The Whale

We changed the nose rocker profile on the new Whales so that they have more rocker than last years model.  The nose rise on the new Whales is 20mm.  Last years Whale was 8mm.  So there is a lot more float to the new Whales!  The new rocker profile is more of a curved rocker.  Last years rocker was more of a flat kick type of rocker.  The curved rocker gives the board a little more edge contact as well as a higher rise on the nose.  They still have camber from the front foot back just like the 11-12 models.  We are using a new type of fiberglass on the 12-13 Whale boards.  It is a Bi-Axial glass that gives the boards a little more torsional flex, or side to side flex.  This makes them more responsive and easier to turn.  The new fiberglass also makes them lighter in weight.  They are about a half pound lighter than last years models.

Technology

“By adding another 12mm of rocker rise to the nose, Unity gets much more float out of this year’s Whale, which debuted to strong reviews last season.  Additionally it has more torsional flex than last years, which makes it easier to turn and more responsive, our testers found.  With camber from the front foot back, the Whale had more hard-snow traction than testers expected of a powder board.  But it shined in untracked snow, earning top rankings for turnability in the glades and overall powder performance.”
